YA Holiday Gift Guide

Collection of YA Christmas books

Written by: Kaia

Happy Holiday season! I’ve been diving into the holidays for a while now. I’ve watched a lot of great Christmas shows and movies and started knitting, making cards and gifts. I can’t believe it’s one day until December! I love the holidays and all they include a: break from school, crafts, hanging out with family and friends and of course presents. Both giving and receiving gifts are right up my alley. Here is a list of books to read this holiday to buy for yourself, put on your wishlist or gift to a friend!

  1. Everyone This Christmas Has a Secret

Rating Prediction: ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆

Summary: “My name’s Ernest Cunningham. I used to be a fan of reading Golden Age murder mysteries, until I found myself with a haphazard career getting stuck in the middle of real-life ones. I’d hoped, this Christmas, that any self-respecting murderer would kick their feet up and take it easy over the holidays. I was wrong.”

Ernest Cunnigham is back again! I loved Ben Stevenson’s first two books: everyone in my family has killed someone and everyone on this train is a suspect. I just finished the latter last week. Both books were engaging murder mysteries filled with humor. The third is the shortest in the series and can be read as a stand alone.

This book is set at Christmas, as the title suggests and it follows Ernest backstage at the show of a world famous magician. When the magician’s benefactor is murdered Ernest has found himself right in the middle of yet another murder mystery. With illusions, strange suspects and abstract clues this murder mystery looks like one of the most entertaining yet.

This is the perfect gift for anyone who loves murder mystery and the holidays. I mean what more could anyone ask for?

  1. White Out

Rating Prediction: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Summary: A collection of love stories set in Atlanta in the middle of a snowstorm, White Out looks like the perfect holiday read. It’s short and sweet with lots of romance. The first book in the series, Blackout, was an amazing novel. Love stories set in the summer heat and blackout of New York. The sequel can be read as a stand alone but it does follow some of the same characters. The book follows the plan for “the big apology”, as twelve teens help their friend pull it off. I can’t wait to see what will happen and how it will all end!!

  1. Fake Skating

Rating Prediction: ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆

Summary: A new holiday romance that looks incredible. The quintessential story of childhood friends to lovers with an added twist! Dani and Alec were inseparable as kids. Then Dani moved away. Now Dani is back in Minnesota, and excited to reconnect. Alec is very different then who she remembers. He is the hockey star in a town that loves hockey very different from the nerdy kid she remembers . Then Dani and Alec find themselves thrown together playing the role of boyfriend and girlfriend. Romance, fake dating and the holidays this book will keep you on the edge of your seat. This book looks really good! I haven’t yet read any of Lynn Painter’s books but I have been meaning to for a while. This looks like a perfect one to start with. The only draw back for me is there is apparently lots of swearing. I would recommend this book more for teens rather than tweens and kids.

  1. My True Love Gave To Me

Rating Prediction: ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆

Summary: If you love holiday movies this one will appeal to you. An anthology of love stories, My True Love Gave To Me is a collection of twelve holiday tales. This book has stories written by some of my favourite authors such as: Jenny Han and Holly Black. Each section sounds unique and different and I can’t wait to dive in. This is the perfect cozy December read. I’m planning on reading this with a good supply of hot cocoa.

  1. Little Women

Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Summary: Little Women, I absolutely love this book! The mix of unforgettable characters and a heartwarming story have delighted me in so many ways. You can read our full review here. This is one book I have already read and while the entire book is not set during the holidays, it is sure a perfect holiday read. The challenges of family relationships, of love and loss, young romance and sisterhood. Little Women captures this and so much more. The scenes of Christmas in the book are also beautiful and add to the charm. Little Women captures sisterhood like no other book I have read.

Finally, Happy Holidays! Wishing everyone a happy and healthy December filled with lots and lots of books. This collection of books is a perfect list with lots of genres. A perfect gift guide for any kind of bookworm. Murder mystery, romance and classic.
